Sidney Health Center welcomes first baby of 2012 Providence Mary Grimmet was the first baby born at Sidney Health Center in 2012. Liza and Larry Grimmet Jr. of Sidney welcomed their baby girl on January 2 at 7:23 a.m. She weighed 8 pounds 13.5 ounces and measured 20.5 inches long. Providence joins two brothers, Zeke and Carter, and two sisters, Faith and Joy.

For being the first baby born at Sidney Health Center in 2012, Providence and her parents received a gift basket full of baby items valued at more than $200 from the Sidney Health Center Volunteers and a $100 savings bond from Sidney Health Center.

Although Providence was the first baby born in 2012, 2011 was a busy year for the obstetric department. In the past year, 125 babies were delivered at Sidney Health Center averaging 10 babies per month. Sixty-nine of the babies were girls while fifty-six were boys.

The Sidney Health Center obstetric and newborn units feature Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) rooms. These rooms are equipped with Jacuzzi tubs and Hill-Rom birthing beds. During labor, options for pain medication are offered. A trained and experienced OB and Nursery Staff is available 24 hours a day.

The obstetric department also offers a One-Day Childbirth Class four times per year. The next childbirth class will be held Saturday, February 4 in Sidney Health Center’s classroom from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Instructors, Lisa Verschoot, RN and Joyce Schulz, RN will review the following topics: relaxation, anatomy and physiology of childbirth, types of delivery, anesthesia, breast feeding and child care. The session is free of charge; however, donations up to $25 are gladly accepted to cover expenses.
