Dr. Malua Tambi, a dedicated OB/GYN at Sidney Health Center, has merged her love of medicine and storytelling to create a heartfelt children’s book, A New Baby for Our Family. Inspired by her experiences as both a physician and a mother of three, the book helps families navigate the joys and challenges of welcoming a new baby.
Told through the eyes of a young child preparing for a sibling’s arrival, the story provides reassurance and empathy, addressing emotions like excitement, curiosity, and apprehension. “It’s a story of love and connection,” Dr. Tambi shared. “It shows children that while life changes, a parent’s love remains constant.”
But this book is more than a resource for families—it’s a generous act of kindness for one of Dr. Tambi’s patients. All proceeds from the book’s first year of sales will support a young mother, who is undergoing treatment for leukemia. Diagnosed shortly after giving birth to her first child, this patient’s story exemplifies the resilience of families facing profound challenges. “I hope the funds will ease her financial burden and remind her she is deeply cared for,” Dr. Tambi said.
For Dr. Tambi, this initiative highlights the power of compassion and giving. “By purchasing this book, my hope is that it not only brings comfort to a child but also makes a tangible difference in someone’s life. Storytelling has the power to bring people together and spread hope.”

With her debut publication, Dr. Tambi aims to highlight the importance of helping others in their time of need. “Even amidst our own struggles and joys, there’s always room to make a difference in the lives of others,” she shared.
As a doctor, Dr. Tambi’s days are often unpredictable and demanding, leaving little time for creative work. However, she explains that writing serves as an outlet for her, and she became determined to bring the children’s book to completion when the patient in her care was diagnosed with cancer. It served as motivation and a means to help someone in need.
