Originally from Germany, Dr. Ralf Kiehl practiced medicine as a Radiation Oncologist for more than 20 years in the New York area before moving to Sidney in January 2018.
Dr. Kiehl started his career serving in the United States Army before going onto receive degrees in Psychology and Biology as well as a Doctor of Medicine in Internal Medicine. He completed residencies in Internal Medicine in Germany as well as the United States before specializing in oncology. Branches of specialization included doing Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowships and completing his Radiation Oncology Residency at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT.
Before moving to Sidney permanently, Dr. Kiehl provided temporary coverage at Sidney Health Center Cancer Care from 2011 to 2018. As a Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Kiehl specializes in treatment of cancer patients, using radiation therapy as the main method of treatment. His is passionate about preventative measures as well as diagnosing and treating cancer at its earliest stages.
He is a proponent of annual physicals, following a healthy lifestyle, and providing opportunities for people to get evaluated especially in rural areas like Northeast Montana and Western North Dakota. In fact, he spearheaded an initiative to provide free screenings for area men ages 55 and older. The Men’s Health Screening has since become an annual event in March through a partnership between Sidney Health Center and the Richland County Health Department.
In addition, Dr. Kiehl serves as the medical director for the wound care clinic, where he has been instrumental in developing the wound care services to include hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This non-invasive treatment involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, which significantly increases the amount of oxygen delivered to body tissues via the blood. Our highly specialized team of caregivers closely monitors the progress of each patient’s wound care treatment and adapts their care plan as needed.
